Monthly Archives: June 2010

I feel completely overwhelmed at different points in my life. This season happens to be one of them. I feel like that entertainer who has all of the plates on poles and has to keep them all spinning or everything will come crashing down. I’m actually having a reoccurring dream that the floor is failing out from under me. Not good…

It’s a bit unnerving, but I thought I’d share because we all get there. We all have seasons where we want to crawl back in bed, pull the covers over our head, and eat a box of donuts. Ironically the Homola family dropped off donuts yesterday, so that didn’t help in my temptation to bury my struggles in sugar and dough.

Seriously though, what do I do when I feel this way? I do SOMETHING. I may not be able to get to all of the emails, but I answer a few. I may not be able to make everybody happy, but I reach out to one. I may not be able to give my kids a bath on the right night, but I can take 5 minutes to tell them how much I love and believe in them.

The reality is that being incapacitated by our fear and pressure only makes it worse. Ironically we can get so afraid of failing and letting people down that we do nothing and then fail and let people down anyway.

I think this issue is the defining line between living a mediocre life and an extraordinary one. Incredible people are not the ones who keep going during the easy times. Incredible people are the ones who keep going when they don’t want to and have to dig deep within themselves to resist quitting. It’s that simple sometimes.

So now my strategy is to make a big list, get help with what I can get help with and accomplish a little bit at a time. The big picture is too much, but one thing at a time will eventually add up to something monumental. And a donut or two along the way doesn’t hurt either…

Sunday highlights:

Starting Point began! I always get excited about the beginning because I know the great journey ahead of people. Can’t wait to see how each of them formulate some new concepts of God and His plan!

Mike did a great job in the Kids Church yesterday! Mark got to go in and work in the class and he had a blast!

Marcus preached for the first time and did a great job! He spoke on worship, which is ironic because Tracy and Tiffany lead worship yesterday! We made him NOT lead worship in order to preach on it! The ladies did a fabulous job, but I bet it was killing him not to have a guitar in his hands…

We had a very productive staff meeting last night. Sometimes we are a flighty bunch that has a hard time focusing because we are mostly creative types. However, there are these golden moments when we all click into a great idea and roll with it. We have a great direction for the upcoming two months as we add another service and push ourselves to the next level. Jessica, one of our teenagers, sat through it with us. It was fun to have her there! It is my goal that kids and teenagers see us having fun doing ministry.

We are doing a Saturday night service at 7:00 pm starting July 10. It’s not just because our seating or parking lot is full. It’s because there are more people out there who need Jesus and we want to provide an option for them. That’s the only reason I ever want to do anything.

We started cleaning out the old kitchen at the church this week in order to create more functionable, usuable space for kids. It’s going to look great soon.

I ordered 2000 mini beach balls this week for an upcoming advertising campaign. That’s when I feel like my very expensive pastoral degree is being used best…

I hope that you have a good week! It’s a BUSY one for me, but by God’s grace, we’ll make it!

I think God is very concerned about two things in our lives. #1 – What we do and say in front of other people and #2 What we do and think when no one else is around. It’s easy as Christians to perfect one of these areas and hope that the other one never gets found out.

Recently my daughters “borrowed” my camera and without my knowledge took a plethora of pictures. Many of them were sweet, but a few of them showed their true character. For instance, it’s a rule in our house not to jump on the couch, so you can imagine my surprise when I saw this picture pop up on my computer screen:

You might be laughing at my child’s antics right now, but I wasn’t. It was my rule and they knew it was important to me that they abide by it. It’s a rule for their own safety and protection, not a power trip put in motion by their mother. I’m pretty sure that God feels the same way when we take His rules and make light of breaking them.

So, what’s on God’s computer screen today that you’re doing? It might be time to delete some of the things in your life and take some new pictures.

And stop laughing at my kids…

It was a holiday weekend at North Creek, but the house was full! For those of you who went on vacation over the weekend, we missed you, but hope that you had a great time away! Now come back!

Most exciting news of the morning…ANOTHER BABY IS ON THE WAY!!!! Number six for our church belongs to the Lundervolds! Congrats and we can’t wait!

On that note, we have plans in the works for a new nursery. We’ll start construction this week on the kitchen and totally gut it to accomodate the Little A’s and babies in the nursery. Here we go!!! We’ll also keep our current (and small) nursery as a nursing mom’s room since they can hear the service and have some privacy.

Saturday services are official! We will beginning a Saturday night option on July 10 at 7:00 pm. It will be the exact same one hour service as our Sunday morning venue with complete childcare and coffee…although we’ll make more decaf for those of you who would prefer that!

With a Saturday service we will need more volunteers for all three services. If you are not already volunteering, please email me at stacy@coffeechurch.com and we’ll get you signed up.

We talked about communion on Sunday and it was awesome! It’s a topic that is so fundamental to the Christian religion, but is rarely taught on. It’s was a great time as we all took communion together.

Mark and I have been feverishly working on redoing our daughters bedroom. They had separate bedrooms, but wanted to share. We got some bunkbeds off of craigslist and have been painting our guts out! We’ll be done soon.

We are meeting with a church consultant tomorrow to get some wisdom about our strengths and weaknesses. So important to get an outside perspective and be willing to grow!

A young boy in our church flipped open his phone at church and said to me, “What’s your number?” I answered him and then he said, “So, what’s your name?” I’m wondering if that strategy is gonna work on the girls in high school, ’cause it sure made me smile!

We had to say goodbye to the Joel and Deserae Schultz family. They are moving to Michigan. We’ll miss them terribly! Joel and Deserae are veterans, so it was nice to pair that with honoring our service people on Memorial Day. Although it’s a day to honor those that have passed, it’s still a nice opportunity to thank all that are willing to give their lives for our safety!

It’s great to be a part of our church! Thanks for your part in this journey!
