It was National Coffee Day on Sunday, which means we should probably have had a marching band or something at the Coffee Church…Do you ever wonder who gets to declare a day something?  It was nice of that person to honor my favorite drink.

On another note, we had two great sermons last weekend.  Battle Ground heard about being a part of God’s best plan to save the world, His Church.  Hazel Dell started off the Hunger series about learning to seek after righteousness.  Looking forward to more in October!

Small groups kick off all this week!  SUCH great groups of people that I am sure will enjoy getting to know each other and experience life together.  It’s going to be a good semester!  If you missed signups, we’ll open a whole new round in January.

We also made a big announcement at church about a potential move for Hazel Dell.  We have an opportunity to buy a building (811 NE 88th Circle, 98665).  They have come down significantly on the price to a point where we could buy it and have the same mortgage payment as our current rent.  We will be doing our best to get you details quickly, but we are just at the beginning of this process, so stay tuned for some times/dates for info meetings and opportunities to see in the building.  Here are some facts for you:

  • Facility has approximately 10,493 SF of space (5,252 SF on main floor, 5,241 SF upstairs).  The upstairs is not ADA (wheelchair) compliant, which it needs to be, so we need to have an architect let us know the costs of solving this issue.
  • It’s location backs up to Interstate 5 and its access is off Highway 99.  It is 16 blocks south of our current building.
  • It was renovated into a church in 2007 and contains an auditorium, office space and multiple classrooms.  The interior is in good condition, but the auditorium is smaller than we’d like.  We need to look at options to help with this issue.  The kid’s and youth space would be a significant upgrade.
  • Building sits on 1.4 acres and is zoned General Commercial (GC) with generous parking, but the parking lot is a mess.  If you are a fan of blackberry bushes, this might be your church…

Right now we are renting our current building.  Our attempts to potentially buy it have been rendered impractical when you weigh out what they would like to sell it for and the necessary renovation costs to make it appropriate for assembly use.  In light of that, we have been actively searching for a solution that would allow us to move forward in creating a building that is clean, well-maintained, and meets our needs for the next season of North Creek Hazel Dell.  As a church, we will spend the next 45-60 days deciding if this new building meets that criteria.  We covet your input at every turn.  We’ll be using this blog, facebook, and email to let you know when you see the building.

Exciting things ahead for North Creek Church!  Thanks so much for your prayers!  We love pastoring this church!

This week was very full of highs and lows…

First off, welcome back to school to most of our Battle Ground and Vancouver students!  We are back to making lunches, finding a pair of socks that actually match, and keeping track of homework.  It’s fun and daunting all at the same time!

Last Wednesday we had a tragedy in our community with the death of Tanner Trosko, a senior from Ridgefield High.  Some of his extended family attends our church, which always makes that kind of a loss hit home in an even more profound way.  I was so proud of our church for stepping in to provide meals and help in whatever way we could in these initial days of this situation.  We will continue to serve and pray for the days and months to come.  There are no words to sum up the horror of losing a child, but our hope is in Christ to bring peace in the midst of the nightmare.

Sunday was the end of our Platform series at Battle Ground.  Your life is the platform that God is choosing to impact the world!  How are you using your daily stuff to bring the focus back to Jesus? We also kicked off Jackpot at Hazel Dell.  We will be focusing on some of the benefits of being a part of Church!  God has a beautiful picture in mind for being a part of a Jesus-centered community.  I know there are a lot of people with a lot of scars from negative Church situations.  That being said, we need to walk through the bad stuff that comes with humanity and find the health!  God has asked us to be humble, be submissive to one another, and love one another.  I am so grateful for our people at North Creek who embrace those traits week in and week out!

Our Kindergarteners transitioned from Tiny Town to KidCity this week.  Here’s a story from Facebook I love:

Dad: So did you have sooo much fun in kid city Sydney?

Sydney: Yes, but I cried part of the time…

Dad: Why? Sydney: Cuz I won’t get to see Scott [Tiny Town Volunteer] anymore.

Thank you to Scott and all the Tiny Town workers…you make a difference!  That is exactly how I want our kids to feel about Church…Love where you’ve been and love where you are going!

Jordan lead worship at Battle Ground and Emily lead at Hazel Dell.  Aren’t we blessed by amazing leaders?  Every week I am profoundly amazed by what they bring to that stage and to my heart.

I am sure looking forward to Friday for our Vision and Volunteers night.  If you are a volunteer at North Creek and somehow missed the information, email me right away at stacy@coffeechurch.com  because we want you there!  If you haven’t RSVP’ed, take a moment and email rsvp@coffeechurch.com.  It’s going to be an amazing night to eat great desserts, enjoy the company and be honored for serving!  A lot of us are even dressing up, so pull out some clean pants and come to the Battle Ground campus!

I hope you have a good week!  Be blessed!

It was a great weekend, but BUSY from end to end!  I love being surrounded by quality people at every turn.  Being a part of a church community is priceless.

Congrats to Bradley and Alyson from the Hazel Dell campus who got married on Sunday!  Super excited for them as they start their new life together!  Enjoy the journey!  It was pretty funny at the wedding watching all of our North Creekers having a good time.  We bring the party!  And the chicken was good, too!

We had our staff team over for a spontaneous BBQ after church.  That’s a whole lot of fun packed into my house!  We have more kids than I can count.  Thankfully we’ve now trained the older ones to watch the younger ones so we can eat!  Smart cookies…

Our sermon series, Age of Kings, is over and done.  I have to admit that I’ll miss it very much!  Such a life-changing thing for our teaching team as multiple people dove into different stories of Kings in the Bible.  It was an amazing experience for all and I hate to see it go!  We sure have a talented teaching team.

One of our “Church Plant Kids”, Gregory, was 15 when we started North Creek.  He has since moved to California, but came home this weekend to visit.  When our sound man threw his back out, Gregory got trained on the sound on the fly.  He did an amazing job and I laughed to myself because we trained him to be available many years ago.  It’s often not the most talented person who is the most valuable…it’s the available ones.  Make yourself available and God will find incredible ways to use you.  We love you, Gregory!

Platform kicked off this week at Hazel Dell!  If you missed it, catch it online as this will be an important series for all of us.  It is a strong reminder that you have a platform to be Jesus to people no matter where you are.

Our youth ministry left on Monday for their Rural Missions Trip.  They will be doing hard labor, preaching, skits, serving, and being hands-on in any way they possibly can.  Take some time to pray for them throughout the week.  We have an amazing youth ministry that meets at our Hazel Dell campus, but we are in the process of developing an on-site youth ministry for Battle Ground.  Stay tuned!!!!

Mark your calendars for September 13.  We are doing a massive Volunteer Appreciation night and we want you to be a part.  A ton of more info to come!

Go tell someone about Jesus.  He’s the only way to change the world!  Be blessed!!

Sunday!  And it’s still hot!  Could this summer be any more amazing?  I’m loving the long, clear days with my kids in the pool.  They’ve been wet for two months now…

It’s been a great summer of growth at our church.  We’ve seen a lot of new guests come through our doors and decide to stay and be a part of our church family.  That being said, our services are completely unpredictable in July and August!  I couldn’t guess attendance at any given service if I tried.  I’m looking forward to September when we get a little bit of normality back.

Small groups start again in late September.  Gonna be great!  If you have an inkling to facilitate a group, it’s time to email Tasha and let her know at Tasha@coffeechurch.com.  Letting us know early makes such a smooth transition into groups, so thank you!

We had someone bring flowers with them to church with their tithe check.  They wanted to express to God how grateful they are for His provision and what a joy it is to give back to Him.  Well, that’s humbling…

On that same note, Mark spoke on Belshazzar on Sunday and about the greed that consumed him.  Most interesting was the number of conversations with people this week who don’t want to change the giving habits in their lives.  I think the most important character trait we can possibly have is to be teachable and want to grow, even in the hard stuff!  The goal of this life is to grow before you go…

At Battle Ground, Rachael preached her first sermon ever and knocked it out of the park!  It was awesome to have so many of our leaders take a week for Age of Kings and really do a phenomenal job.  My favorite part was watching the Scriptures come alive for each preacher.  They all spent so much time with their Bible character that it really transformed them in profound ways.

School supplies are piling up at both of our campuses!  Thanks so much for bringing in your generosity as we aim to be present in our local schools.  We have two more weeks for you to bring your supplies.

Jim preached on Jehoshaphat at the Deaf Church.  That was the king I preached on, so he’s now my favorite.  Love me some Jehoshaphat!

We went to an open house for one of our young couples from Battle Ground on Sunday night.  I love young marrieds buying their first homes!  It brings back all of the amazing memories of our first house and how much fun it was to make it our home!

Being a part of church is so much fun!  Come and see for yourself!

Hope you are blessed!!!!

The Church is alive and well in Vancouver, WA!  We have some great churches in our city, don’t we?  North Creek is definitely one of them, but we are blessed to minister alongside so many every day!  I hope you are praying for our church as well as others as we have the same goal to tell people about Jesus!

Yesterday I got to be a part of leading a man to Jesus.  He came up to me during worship and said, “I don’t know how to do it, but Jesus has got to be a part of my life.”  Here’s how you do it: ask Him to be.  That’s it!  He’ll figure the rest out with you as you pray, read your Bible, and jump into a church family to learn.  It was after service that I was informed that he was the father of one of our recent graduates…humbled…just humbled to be a part of God’s story…

SO much great ministry happens in the life of our church each week.  People are coming, connecting, growing, and serving all the time.  We have had a flood of new guests this summer and I look forward to September when everybody is back from vacation!  It’s going to be a powerful fall!

Vanessa preached for the first time for us yesterday at Battle Ground and knocked it out of the park.  She is the Kid’s Pastor at Battle Ground and that’s the kind of quality we put in front of our young people.  When you give to our church, we use some of that money to provide quality leaders to invest in your life and your family.  It’s worth every penny!!!

School Supply drive is ON!  We’ll also be letting you know of some backpack stuffing dates in late August so you can be hands-on as well!  #bepresent

Did you know North Creek will be 7 years old next month?  I’m in shock.

Complete sidenote: I am so tired of reading blogs about all the things wrong with Church.  Too many Christians spend too much time lamenting the failing Church.  The good news is that the Church is NOT failing.  If you think it is, you need to read your Bible.  It’s never going to fail.  It’s a force to be reckoned with and all of Hell cannot prevail over it.  Knock it off with the negativity and let’s go change the world!  That was free.

Our children left for Kid’s Camp this morning.  That was a lot of energy in the church parking lot this morning!  Pray, pray, pray!  God can do so much in five short days.  Not to mention the MASSIVE amount of fun they have at camp.

We are painting some rooms at Battle Ground on Tuesday from 9:30-4:00 pm.  If you want to join us, we take help!  Just let me know if you’re coming by emailing me at stacy@coffeechurch.com.

Follow us on twitter @thecoffeechurch.  Follow Jesus, too.

OK!  Have a good week!  Do something that grows your faith this week.  Be blessed!
